Pharmaceutics, a discipline of Pharmacy is the science of designing the dosage form. It deals with all facets of the process of turning a new/old chemical entity (NCE) into a safe and effective medication used by patients in the community. It is the study of relationships between drug formulation, delivery, disposition and clinical response with emphasis on the development of robust manufacturing process.
The Department of Pharmaceutics started its postgraduate program in 1988 under the guidance of Dr. F. V Manvi. The Dept. is well established, with highly qualified trained and experienced teaching faculty having a background in academics and industry exposure. Academic and research excellence is achieved by changing curriculum, syllabus and pedagogy to meet the current requirements of pharmaceutical industries, academics and regulatory bodies. Hands-on training and skill development programs ensure integrated teaching, learning and understanding.
The department has established well-equipped, spacious laboratories and a well-designed pilot plant equipped with modern instruments like Malvern Zetasizer, Brookfield viscometer, Spray dryer, Rotaevaporator, industrial tray dryer, Ultrasonicator, etc.
The faculties of the department are actively involved in teaching and imparting skill education to undergraduates, postgraduates and Ph.D. Scholars. The faculty has gained expertise in developing conventional and Novel Drug Delivery systems for Oral, Transdermal, Targeted Delivery, Occular and Intranasal applications. The department has been involved in seeking extramural grants from various government funding agencies such as AICTE (MODROB), VGST, KSPC, etc.
